Air European Tour. 26 November – 12 January 2010
It is ten years since the sensational debut by Air, the French duo of electronic music; during this time, not only have Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin managed to hold on to their popularity, but also to consolidate their status as "the most stylish of French electronic music artists". Air currently seems to have almost earned the rank of "the Parisian Kraftwerk". At different stages of their career, the two musicians have experimented with an extensive palette of musical colours, from the gentle, almost translucent electronic pieces that seem to captivate the filmmaker Sofia Coppola, to prog rock and compositions featuring traditional Japanese instruments. Music by Air is featured in the soundtracks of Coppola's films: The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. Members of the band also wrote lyrics and music for the singer and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg's (the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin) album which was released in 2006. The new tour is launched in support of their new album Love 2. The record features everything that makes Air so popular with music fans: elegant melodies, warm feelings and the lovely consciousness of listening to what is still pretty much the most stylish music in the whole world.
