Paris Photo, November 18 – 21, 2010

The annual photography fair Paris Photo, taking place in November, is one of the most important photography events not only in France but internationally as well. Traditionally, it features one particular country or a region and this time it's going to be focused on the Central Europe or the former Eastern Block countries, like Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Photography has always been among the most vivid forms of creative expression there. Ever since the beginning of the 20th century, Bratislava, Prague, Budapest and Warsaw are renowned for their strong traditions of intellectual and avant-garde photography. These countries have produced lots of brilliant talents, bringing novelty and enriching the world's photography. The legendary Budapest-born war photographer Robert Capa, Transylvanian-born Brassaï and a Bauhaus professor, Hungarian László Moholy-Nagy are just few to be mentioned. Carousel du Louvre is the key venue of the event and it houses also its main exposition, developed in cooperation with Ludwig Museum in Budapest. Paris Photo 2010 brings together a record number of 90 international art galleries. Although the fair lasts for just 4 days, it's actually a grand finale of the photo festival that goes on a whole month of November and involves numerous galleries throughout the French capital. Some exhibitions will continue even till February 2011. Among many exhibitions worth seeing, a few to be singled out are a retrospective of the 20th century Hungarian photographer Andre Kertesz (Jeu de Paume till February 6) and the first retrospective held in France of the photographer and film director Larry Clark (Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris till January 2), comprising more than 200 photos and 50 years of Clark's creative career.
