Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom writes beautiful songs and performs them accompanying herself on the harp. Her new Have One on Me album can be safely described as epic: it comprises three CDs and the average length of the tracks is seven minutes. The 28-year old Newsom is one of the most unique and distinctive artists in contemporary pop music. She started to study the harp at a very young age, playing classical repertoire and Celtic traditional music. Later, as Joanna Newsom started to write her own music, she also found in herself an extravagant poetic talent. Newsom grew up in the small Northern Californian town of Nevada City. It is to this utopian magical Hippyland that the singer-songwriter has dedicated her latest album Have One on Me. Joanna Newsom has been referred to as a neo-folk diva who paints musical landscapes. The profundity of her art has even inspired a tribute collection of essays by respected authors: Visions of Joanna Newsom was published in spring 2010 in the United States.
