Cēsis 2010 Art Festival, 23 July – 15 August

The 4th Cēsis Art Festival offers an extensive programme comprising every genre of contemporary culture.
Concert-goers have the opportunity to attend truly unique recitals featuring appearances by internationally acclaimed choirs - the Latvija State Choir and Latvian Radio Choir - and orchestras: the Sinfonietta Riga Chamber Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra. The festival will see the first performances of original works by the composers Kristaps Pētersons, Līga Celma and Santa Ratniece.
Art lovers are welcome at the Take Care contemporary art exhibition by artists from all three Baltic States; the concept of the show is centred on the relationship between the artist and the viewer, between art and the public. For the first time, the festival programme features an exhibition of installations by prominent Latvian fashion artists, demonstrating the mutual influence of art and fashion.
The significantly expanded film programme comprises a selection of contemporary and classical Japanese movies, the premiere of the Mud documentary film by Dainis Kļava, as well as Sounds under the Sun, the latest work by Gints Grūbe and Dāvis Sīmanis.
A much anticipated event is the unique performance of the Grandfather mono-play by the actor Vilis Daudziņš and director Alvis Hermanis from the JRT Theatre; this time it will be held at a specially selected venue, the Cēsis Railway Warehouse.
This year, the Cēsis Festival is looking to raise its profile by hosting an international conference dedicated to the current trends in contemporary art and music; The Care to Create will be attended by professionals of fine art and academic music from Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland and Russia.
