Coldplay World Tour, until 19 September, 2009
For the last couple of years or so Coldplay, an undisputed member of the top musical league, despite the comparative youth of the band members, has been fighting it out for the unofficial title of the world's best band with living classics like U2, R.E.M. and Radiohead. Coldplay endears itself to millions of listeners of their music: the band's stadium anthems are known to move the crowds of concertgoers to tears, and it's not just the women we are talking about here. The band members combine refined modesty and undisguised ambitiousness in their behaviour: these are musicians who make you believe they are haunted by lack of self-confidence and yet, at the same time, you are left in no doubt of the fact that their music is nothing if not fabulous and the band itself - just the cat's pyjamas. June 2008 saw the release of Coldplay's fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, a fact which provided the grounds for a new world tour. The front man of the band Chris Martin is the husband of the Hollywood diva Gwyneth Paltrow and the father of her two children - a fact that has also left an impact on the process of Coldplay acquiring the status of megastars; nevertheless Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow make a point of never attending social events together. On the other hand, it is hard to believe Gwyneth would deny herself the pleasure of attending at least one of her husband's gigs during the new world tour.
