Murakami. Guggenheim Museum, until 31 May 2009

The Guggenheim Museum announces the exhibition as the most ambitious and extensive Takashi Murakami retrospective ever. The show comprises over 90 works of art: sculptures, paintings, works in animation, design and the fashion industry; the body of exhibited works traces the evolvement of Murakami's art from its origins dating back to the early 1990s to the present day and demonstrates the strong link between his creativity and mass culture.
Takashi Murakami was born in 1962 in Japan and graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His art is rooted in the synthesis of the ancient traditions of visual culture, mass culture and American Pop Art; a significant aspect of his work is its close affinity to animation and the Japanese manga culture.
