Philippe Barde, Musée Ariana, through 11 January, 2010

Philippe Barde is one of the few internationally recognised Swiss contemporary ceramists; his status as an international artist is confirmed by the countless prestigious awards Barde has won over the years. The show of his works, open through early January 2010 in Geneva, could be described as an attempt to explore the relationship between the author and the medium of ceramics. Barde's porcelain, monumental and sophisticated at the same time, reveal a sensitive link with contemporary art and culture. It is noteworthy that the original shape of every individual work featured in the show has been borrowed from found objects. To the artist, the process of deciphering, decoding the finds is important so as to invest a certain emotional content into the reconstructed versions of the objects.
