The Museum of Literature and Art is yet another subsidiary of the National Museum housing a collection of manuscripts and ancient books formerly held at the Ethnographic-Anthropological Museum-Library. While, unlike the Matendaran, the museum does not possess written sources created before the 16th century, its collection is still quite extensive and very valuable. The museum is also home to a prominent research centre, the collection of which comprises the archives of some 600 Armenian writers, playwrights and musicians; part of the rich collection of photographs, posters, sketches, costumes, theatre props, musical instruments and personal effects are featured in the permanent exhibition, providing a comprehensive insight into the lives of prominent artists.
