Kerala is located in the southernmost part of India and is considered to be one of the most unique regions of the country - not least because it definitely belongs among the cleanest states with the most magnificent wildlife and highest level of literacy and education; Kerala is also the home of Ayurveda and spices. It reminds of an aromatic bouquet of every possible fragrance and colour: Hindu, Arab and European cultures, mountains and the ocean, ethnic kitchen that seems to be a fusion of practically every cuisine in the world. And then there are the colours... Kerala is warm and welcoming. It lives at its own pace and surprisingly tolerant.
There are a number of ways of travelling around Kerala - you can pick the method and route that suits your interests best. If you are into beach tourism, do go to Kovalam. If you want to get closer to the real, authentic feel of the region, you have to venture inland. Ideally you should try and spend at least two or three days in each place you've chosen to visit: that's the only way to feel the true rhythm of life in this unique Indian region.
