Tel Aviv Earth Market belongs to the international network of currently 17 regional organic food markets supporting Slow Food philosophy. It is located in a renovated port area, which now houses shops, restaurants and fames for its vibrant night life. Sited in a small covered pavilion, the market is held every Friday from 8.00 a.m. till 3.00 p.m. and on Tuesday evenings.
The Earth Market offers the very best of the traditional, locally produced foods. Sun-filled strawberries with a trace of sand, no less than seven different varieties of carrots, crisp cabbages, radish, artichokes, aubergines, asparagus, turnips and numerous sorts of potatoes - purplish ones, buttery yellow, small and sweet and many more. Enticing piles of aromatic mushrooms and fresh cucumbers side by side with pickled ones... And, of course, an unbelievable abundance of tomatoes of different hues and shapes with sometimes so odd and extravagant names being given to their varieties.
Olives in different dressings, a large variety of oil and other products made of olives are brought by farmers themselves. At a meat counter, you can select whatever cut of meat you wish - lamb testicles and calf tails, fillet, saddle and homebred chicken. A wide assortment of wine, cheese and fish is available, too. You'll come across a Latvian-Polish counter, too, with familiar combinations of salads and a counter with Italian goodies. All in all, Earth Market represents about 60 individual farmers and producers.
Every product is available for tasting at the same time savoring warm sincerity and unobtrusive friendliness of local people. The marketplace houses some simple eateries, pasta and juice bars with big glasses of freshly squeezed juices. You can eat and drink on the spot or order a takeaway. Tel Aviv Earth Market is a superb place for shopping and enjoying a simple, healthy, delicious meal.
