SfääR

Reborn for a new life, the eccentric buildings of Tallinn's attractive Rotermann Quarter - a living experiment of contemporary architecture which has entrusted its 20th-century industrial brick and traditional Estonian dolomite structures into the hands of adventurous architects and seen trapezium-shaped black glass constructions placed on top of its boring old warehouses and façades panelled with rusted metal-like material - house quite a few intriguing little shops, cafés, proper restaurants and art galleries. Hidden behind the two-leaved door of 6E Mere Pst, the SfääR Restaurant is the perfect eatery for those whose daily rhythms just would not accommodate themselves to the restricting protocol of proper lunch and dinner hours. At pretty much any hour of the day, SfääR serves Nordic cuisine based on local seasonal ingredients; its wine shelves feature both wine classics and the latest trends. Like the menu, the restaurant's decor is likewise dominated by a mixture of local and Scandinavian design: the brick walls have been given a new lease of life with a fresh coat of light paint; the white simple construction shelves which store wine, some lovely style objects and toys, as well as a few potted plants on the window sills add a touch of cosiness and homey appeal.

The vast space of the industrial building has been put to good use, dividing the place into two separate levels: just a few steps, and SfääR Store will offer a few tips as to what might be missing in your wardrobe: perhaps a thing or two from Nudie Jeans or Acne Jeans, a pair of stylish boots from EMU or a few outlandish accessories - or maybe it is the right moment to buy a good book, something unexpected for your CD library? Perhaps you are in a mood to choose a silly yet endearing gift for a friend - could it be a 1980s toy robot, for instance?
