Diekmann

In all, there are three Diekmann eateries in Berlin; however, the small restaurant in Meinekestrasse, housed in a former grocery/spice store, is definitely the most charming one among them. As soon as you set foot inside, it surprises with its extremely cosy and almost authentic feel of the pre-war Berlin: white tablecloths, the original wooden tables, chairs and, of course, the giant old spice cupboard from the previous incarnation of the place; the countless drawers and shelves are now storing wine bottles.
You are not likely to see anyone who has found himself here by accident - the patrons are, for the most part, people in the know. The waiters know them by face like personal acquaintances. The kitchen is dominated by a mixture of traditional German and French cuisines: no groundbreaking innovations, only tested and classical values; what is more, ingredients are mostly supplied by local farmers. The food is not cheap: on average, the price of the main course ranges from EUR 17 to 20; the quality, on the other hand, is top drawer.
