Literaturhaus

This is a truly legendary place with history that can be traced back to 1886 when a wealthy businessman built this mansion with its lovely winter garden for his daughter and son-in-law (who is said to have been a sailor and travelled as far as the North Pole). Since 1986 this is the home to a literary club where the local intellectuals gather for prose and poetry readings. Since the 1990s it houses a café as well. Do choose a table in the winter garden (by the way, officially listed as one of the historic gardens of Berlin). You will be breathing history.
The neighbourhood is slightly reminiscent of Mežaparks in Riga; you will see lots of fur worn around here on a chilly day. The fellow customers are great to watch and the fare is excellent. To have a cup of coffee or a salad here is pure pleasure.
