Borchardt

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

In every city there is a place where people go to be seen and, of course, to look at others. In Berlin it's Borchardt. In the 1920s this was the building of a French brasserie, and you will still detect more than just a whiff of Parisian decadence here. The first impression: an ambience of a fine French bistro. Don't be surprised if the waiter addresses you in French. The restaurant owes its name to Ludwig Borchardt, a Berliner who played an important role in excavation and exploration of the Egyptian ruins of el'Amarna, the ancient city dedicated to the Sun, in 1913. In warm weather definetly choose a table in the courtyard: with its ambience and customers it reminds of the famous Parisian Hotel Costes. Order some oysters and watch the performance: politicians, artists, show business sharks and models are all actors on the Borchardt stage.
