Dussmann Dass KulturKaufhaus

A culture department store - that's one way of describing the three-storey temple of literature (books), music (CDs) and film (DVDs), located a stone's throw from the Friedrichstrasse metro station. It is a dangerous place: you drop by for "ten minutes only" and emerge from there a couple of hours later with a serious "hole" in your credit card. An excellent choice of books, from the coffee table variety to history, art and psychology. Half of the top floor has been taken over by travel literature. The strategically placed and incredibly comfortable La Corbusier armchairs make it even more difficult to force yourself out of Dussmann. In the DVD department a whole rack is allocated to the Cinemathek series (courtesy of the Berlin Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper), a selection of the greatest movies of all times, from immortal classics to the best of what contemporary filmmakers have to offer; EUR 9.90 a piece (do pay attention to the voice-over/subtitle options).
