Hungarian Natural History Museum / Magyar Természettudományi Muzeum

The same way as other Budapest's museums, the Natural History Museum is formed under the wing of Hungarian National Museum. The mineral collection of the Count Ferenc Széchényi's wife Julianna Festetics once served as the beginning for the future natural history collections. It was followed by a paleontological collection donated by Archduke Raine, a newly purchased zoological collection and Pál Kitaibel's herbarium. By the end of the 19th century, the museum held over one million exhibits but only in the last decade of the 20th century it moved to its current home - the historic building of Ludovika Military Academy. The permanent collection of the museum entitled "Man & Nature in Hungary" comprises part of its vast collections in anthropology, mineralogy, geology, paleontology, zoology and botany. It presents an exciting adventure to little visitors as well, offering an interactive participation in the exploration of the museums exhibits.
