Museum of Fine Arts / Szépművészeti Muzeum

Budapest's Museum of Fine Arts is renowned for its valuable art collection devoted to non-Hungarian art, taking particular pride in its Spanish collection - the second largest outside Spain itself! The museum is based on the classic museum concept and contains departments of Egyptian art (priding to be among the most abundant ones in central Europe), antique art, old sculpture and graphic art. The museum boasts a magnificent collection of old masters, representing all the major European schools of painting. It features works by Rafael, Giorgione and Bronzino. Titian's "Portrait of Doge Marcantonio" and Pieter Bruegel's "St John the Baptist Preaching", works of Hans Holbein and Lucas Cranach the Elder as well as masterpieces of unsurpassable Spanish masters - El Greco, Velasquez, Zurbaran, Goya and Esteban Murillo. A valuable part of the museum's collection comprises artworks created after 1800 - paintings of French school from Modernism to Post Impressionism, German symbolism and less known samples of Austrian Biedermeier style. The collection represents also various directions of the early 20th century modernism and offers a glimpse into the mid-20th century trends in art. The works to be mentioned are "A Moroccan and his Horse" by Eugène Delacroix, "Erinnerung an Coubron" by Camille Corot, "Lady With a Fan" by Édouard Manet, "Women in the Dining-Room" by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, "Spring Evening" by Arnold Böcklin and "Kiss of the Sphinx" by Franz von Stuck.
