Hamdi Restaurant

It is simply unthinkable to leave Istanbul without taking in the views over the Golden Horn over an authentically Turkish meal. From outside, the place looks plain enough, but Istanbul aficionados have been coming here for the true taste of kebab for decades. Hamdi's is one of a handful of restaurants that serves proper Istanbul food of unfailing quality. No tired meze tray or predictable fare here, but a real treat for even the most jaded palate, drawing on all the great culinary traditions of the city and helped along with different types of bread hot from the oven. Ask the waiter for guidance through the bewildering array of different kinds of kebab from all over Turkey, or even better, ask for a communal plate of mixed kebab, brought sizzling to the table. Hamdi's has a clientele of very loyal regulars, so make sure to make a booking especially if you want a table over the legendary sight of the Golden Horn and the Galata Bridge linking the Old Town to Pera and Beyoğlu. With drink and a real blowout meal, expect to pay around €40, less than that if you are keeping an eye on your wasteline (but don't!). Open 18.00 to midnight. All major credit cards accepted.
