Bibendum - that is the name of the Michelin Man, symbol of the Michelin Company since the first days of its existence. He also adorns the front of the historical Michelin building, the most famous example of London's Art Deco architecture. It used to host the headquarters of the Michelin tyre manufacturer but in 1985 the building was bought by Sir Terence Conran who set up one of his famous shops on the ground floor and a somewhat expensive restaurant on the first floor. And yet you will stumble upon the true gem of this building as soon as you walk through the front door: The Bibendum Oyster Bar, located in the lobby. Fantastic oysters, not to mention other sorts of sea food. Besides, this is a place that has stood the test of time like a rock.
Even after an absence of five years you'll feel like meeting a good old acquaintance. The interior of the Michelin era has been preserved, including the wall tiles and the original flooring. You can find a table inside or - even more fun - right next to the entrance, between the oyster and flower stalls and indulge in people watching at your own leisure while enjoying your oysters: the great London theatre of life spreads out right in front of you.
