A not new but still popular London address, Momo is owned by Mourad Mazouz, the proprietor of Sketch. The cuisine combines Tunisian, Algerian and Moroccan schools of cooking. As for design, think the craziest things ever dreamed up by John Galliano on the Dior catwalk; in other words - blatant maximalism. That's for those who have never been to Morocco, otherwise - a true essence of Marrakesh experiences. The design was created by Mazouz himself, and most of the objects have been brought over from the Arab countries. The ground floor hosts the Kimia bar (officially for members only, still - if you have been a good client during the dinner and pass the face control, you won't have any trouble getting in). Similarly to Sketch, visiting the restroom is a must. The door and sink are from Morocco, the toilet table - from Cairo and the lamp - from Istanbul. An old legend has it that in France a restaurant was always judged by its lavatory, Mazouz says in an interview. And he may just be right, at least in this age of consumer culture. The adjoining Mo Tea Rooms teashop is worth a visit as well; the Oriental lamps that adorn the ceiling can be bought - admittedly, for thrice the price you would pay for it in Morocco.
Momo is expensive but within reason: you can dine for the average price of GBP 35.
