Nature Morte, Delhi

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

Nature Morte is one of the most renowned contemporary art galleries in Delhi. Initially founded in New York in 1982, its owner Peter Nagy revived it in New Delhi in 1997. In the beginning, exhibitions took place in different spots around the city, and the gallery boasts to be the first one in India to take part at international art fairs, Art Basel among them. Two years ago, the gallery opened a branch of Nature Morte in Berlin. Much like anything in Delhi, Nature Morte isn't easy to find - the only indicator of its location is a small plaque at the gate of a white-walled villa of the 60s. The gallery is set in the interior courtyard of the building, and it's enough to step over its threshold to lose any sense of time and space - you can easily imagine yourself being in New York or London, for that matter. Nature Morte is known to be one of the most creative and experimental galleries in India, focusing mainly on photography, installations and conceptual art. Expositions are changing almost every month there, all of them worth paying attention.
