Mandawa, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan

Author: Ivonna Veiherte

A small 18th century Mandawa town 190 km off Jaipur is famous for its marvelous haveli architecture. The town was once established by wealthy merchants who built lavishly ornate houses, adorned with frescos and other decorations. Nowadays, the town resembles a somewhat ramshackle open air art gallery, with half-crumbled buildings surrendering their wall paintings for unrestricted viewing.
