Tokyo Baby Cafe, Tokyo

In case you are planning a visit to Tokyo anytime in the foreseeable future, don't leave your kids at home. Tokyo Baby Cafe is exactly the place both parents and their little darlings have been dreaming of for years and years: the former - as an opportunity to enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee and a chat with friends (in a stylish decor that is nothing like the usual Disneylandish theme park-like kitsch), the latter - as a place where they are not forced to sit up straight, pretend to be an exemplary behaved super child and bore themselves to sleep by listening to incredibly tiresome grownup chit-chat. The interior of Tokyo Baby Cafe, created by the Japanese designer nendo, is a perfect take on the relationship between „the big" and „the little", played out with faultless feel for contemporary style: it's not just about the size of things but also about the different vantage points. For instance, while grownups are mostly aware of things on the table surface, their younger companions find the space underneath it equally exciting - and at Tokyo Baby Cafe they have turned it into a real fairytale world where the tabletop serves as a roof of an imaginary house to the tiny customers. The cafe also boasts a playground of its own, jam-packed with books and toys. An incredible amount of thought has been given to the tiniest of details; for instance, the door-handles can be easily reached by grownups and children alike.
