Le Café Ban Vat Sene is one of the best breakfast places in the city: wicker chairs and teak tables, excellent sandwiches, light appetisers. Always fresh croissants and a whole shelf dedicated exclusively to French pastries. A tiny adjoining shop sells locally grown coffee, tea and spices. The place is dominated by the ambience of a democratic French coffeehouse set in an authentic colonial era environment. A breath of the 21st century is only brought in by the customers, a motley crowd from every part of the world. People sip their coffee while reading their morning papers, books, travel guides or checking their e-mail on their laptops (Le Café Ban Vat Sene offers its customers a free Wi-Fi connection).
