The hotel is housed in a historic mid-19th century madrasa building; it was built by Mohammad Amin Khan; during the Soviet era it was home to the Khiva hotel, luckily recently renovated having become the property of the local Orient Star chain. Admittedly, at the moment when this guide was being written, only the courtyard rooms - converted student cells - were available to guests after the renovation; the rooms with a view of the Kukhna-Ark palace of the khans, located just opposite the hotel, are scheduled to open very soon. Each of the rooms originally boasts a separate private terrace; the view from there alone will very likely be enough to make Orient Star Khiva one of the most desirable places to spend the night in this ancient city.
