Shaherezada Khiva is located by the South Gate of the city and ambience-wise is definitely one of the most charming accommodations in Khiva - not a hotel in the traditional sense, perhaps, rather a lovely B&B with lots of local colours. Don't expect special comfort and excellent service, the experience is more reminiscent of staying at somebody's home. The hotel is family-owned and all of the woodcarvings - the door, magnificent cabinet in the dining room, the decorative bed-head - were made in the workshop that belongs to the owners. At night you are greeted by the lady of the house and her little daughter who is making an effort to learn English by talking to the guests. In the morning you are served a proper home breakfast; you will find all the usual autumnal Uzbek treats on the table: a bowl with freshly sun-dried raisins, nuts, dried fruit...
Rates: USD 50 for a double room
