Maison d'Hanoi Hotel, Hanoi

The capital of Vietnam doesn't pride itself in a plentitude of small and charming lodgings, therefore Maison d'Hanoi, opened recently in the old quarter, is such a gem on the city's hotel scene. Featuring just 55 rooms, it is perfectly located within 3 minutes walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in the heart of the city. Small historic lanes entwine the hotel, bristling with street cafes and motorbikes, and offering lively and colorful shopping. Just mingle in and soon the big-city noise and seeming chaos feels perfectly natural to you, and before long you'll notice that you start moving in the same rhythm with it. The hotel fits perfectly with the traditional architectural style of the area packed full with tall and narrow building like matches in a matchbox, determined by the limited construction space. Some houses do not exceed even 3 meters in width, providing just enough space for a tiny ground floor shop, while being 50 and more meters tall. Maison d'Hanoi with its ten floors combines colonial style with typically Asian features. Five colors - red, white, silver, gold and grey - prevail in its décor, bringing out both oriental and Art deco traits. The rooms are plain and elegant - feathery silk lamps cast soft and cozy light, stylized red chests are transformed into small tables, and beds, adorned with sleek silk pillows, are very comfortable. Nothing in excess, yet everything you might need is there, including wireless internet connection. Typically to the location, rooms are comparatively small; therefore, if you travel with a child, the best choice would be one of the 2 top-floor suites where a living room can serve as a kid's bedroom. Windows overlook Hanoi's roof-top panorama, which maneuvering along its narrow streets among bikes, tables of street eateries and peering at show-windows usually stays unnoticed. As for service, new Hanoi hotels still has space for improvement. It might happen that some requests you'll have to repeat twice, yet, nevertheless, it does not takes away any of Maison d'Hanoi's undeniable charm. Moreover, the hotel offers soft opening period rates - 80 USD for a standard room, 90 USD for deluxe and 130 for a suite.
