Summer of Photography 2014, BOZAR, June 18 – August 31, 2014
This summer's photography biennale is the fifth to be held at BOZAR, Brussels' Centre for Fine Arts, with the emphasis this year on gender relations and issue of equality. The central exhibition is titled Woman and features 450 works by 29 female artists who represented the feminist avant-garde from the 1970s. Among them are Cindy Sherman, Lili Dujourie and Renate Bertlmann. Hailing from North America and Europe, these photographers helped to change the way in which women are depicted in photographs. The biennale's other major exhibition is named Where We're At! and demonstrates how women from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean countries have treated women's issues. A number of discussions on sexual equality and questions of identity are also on the programme.
