Chedi, opened in spring 2008, is one of the latest and most sought-after restaurants in Tallinn. It is located next door to the already well-known Italian restaurant Bocca (owned by the same people); unlike its neighbour's, its specialty is Asian cuisine. A warm and cosy contemporary Asian-style decor: high vaulted ceiling, large windows, decoratively revealed fragments of brickwork, laconic dark wood tables (the larger ones, of course, equipped with a revolving central part) sans tablecloths, a stylised stupa and sakura branches on one side of the room. Authentic chairs (imported from China), impressive Zen-style loos built in antique medieval vaults. The central niche with its two red and gold-painted trees is reminiscent of the splendid landscapes in Hero, the film by the Chinese director Zhang Yimou... Not to forget the great food - Asian cuisine at its best! A fabulous, tender roast duck with a mango citrus sauce (EEK 260), classic dim sum with prawns, scallops and spinach (six dishes for EEK 170), seafood and spinach soup, fantastically gentle in its bouquet of flavours (EEK 100). We would also recommend roasted lotus roots with asparagus. Excellent unobtrusive service - the eastern-style dressed Estonian girls working at the restaurant really do move with the grace typical to Asian women, almost soundlessly sliding across the floor (or perhaps actually floating above it) and softly inquiring every now and then if you are lacking anything to reach actual bliss...
