L'Abbaye d'Alspach (Kientzeim), Alsace

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

The small and quiet medieval town of Kientzheim, still surrounded by its historical stone wall hailing from the 14th century, is a strategically ideal stopping-off point during an Alsatian wine tour. All of the legendary wine- and gourmet-villages - Kayserberg, Ammerschwihr, Riquewihr, Eguisheim, as well as the region's heart - Colmar, are a five- to twenty-minute drive away. Even in the middle of the season, Kientzheim is free of the traditional hordes of tourists; in the mornings, the village slowly comes to life, whiling the day away in its particular, centuries-old rhythm of time. L'Abbaye D'Alspach is found in a historical, 11th century cloister building, right in the heart of Kientzheim. The hotel has 29 rooms, its interiors embodying the charm of the 'good old days' and its details emanating considered elegance. It may well be the ancient soul of the cloister, but an undeniable peace governs here when sleeping. Taking into consideration the comfort of its 21st century clientele, the hotel has a parking lot and all rooms feature free wireless internet. L'Abbaye D'Alspach also offers five apartments, three of which consist of two separate rooms, making it a convenient place to stay for guests traveling with children.
