La Roux, the British project which became one of the biggest discoveries of 2009, are followers of the Electropop style, citing the early-1980s music - Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Eurythmics and vintage Human League - as their main source of inspiration. Today, the band's fan base is not limited to confirmed aestheticists: the lead vocalist Elly Jackson - a 21-year old redhead who looks like Tilda Swinton and Annie Lennox in one - has managed to capture the hearts of even very young listeners. Eleanor has created an image of an unapproachable cyber diva, a bizarre androgynous being with an incredibly snazzy hairstyle - a sharp contrast to the vulnerable sensitivity of the band's songs which tends to reduce its fans to a kind of synthetic euphoria. The main instrument in the arsenal of La Roux is a synthesizer - a nod to the 1980s musical aesthetics.
