Monumenta 2014. Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Grand Palais, May 10 – June 22, 2014

Within seven short years, the annual Monumenta project has become one of the main events on Paris' busy cultural calendar. Every spring, an internationally renowned contemporary artist is invited to create an artwork in the nave of the Grand Palais, which covers 13,500 m2 and extends to a height of 35 metres. The first installation was set up in 2007 by German artist Anselm Kiefer. He was followed by Richard Serra (USA), Christian Boltanski (France), Anish Kapoor (UK) and Daniel Buren (France).

This year, Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov will create a spectacular, mysterious Utopian city under the monumental glass roof, offering the visitor a journey of initiation and reflection on the human condition.
