Espace Vuitton, gallery owned by the Louis Vuitton fashion brand, opened in 2005 and located on the 7th floor of the well-known shopping temple, has already earned the status of a "must-see place". The 1931 art deco building currently housing a Vuitton shop, used to belong to the French Tourist Board. Names of the architects are well known within the industry of luxury fashion shops: Peter Marino (this time responsible for the interior of the shop) and American Eric Carlson. Getting there is an adventure in itself: you enter a completely black lift covered in black velvet, joined by a black attendant dressed completely in black. The moment the lift door closes, you are enveloped by black and quite spatial silence. The couple of dozen seconds it takes to get to the 7th floor you see nothing, not even the silhouettes of your fellow travellers. A moving and slightly claustrophobic version of Malevich's Black Square. For a few second it seems that anything can happen - anything your imagination can come up with. The lift is an original work by the Danish artist Olafur Eliasson and it's entitled Your Loss of Senses, and lost they are - only to be recovered a moment later. The effect has been achieved: the lift door opens directly into the gallery, and for a few moments your eyes only try to capture whatever is exhibited at the time (a bit later you notice the panoramic view: it is the 7th floor, after all). One of the most noticed exhibitions at Espace Vuitton was dedicated to India - as seen by Indian and French artists.
