Berliner Philharmoniker, Lunchkonzert. Berliner Philharmonie, the Lobby. Until 22 June, 2010

Berliner Philharmoniker is a name that speaks for itself: one of the world's best orchestras, headed by one of the world's most prominent conductors, Sir Simon Rattle, is always a guarantee of a powerful musical experience. They have never had any problems with publicity or popularity. And yet, since the post of artistic director was offered to Pamela Rosenberg, the former general director of San Francisco Opera, a number of changes have been made in the direction of openness and availability, considering the extremely expensive tickets and the ever-sold-out tickets. One of the changes which has by now already become a wonderful tradition, still carried on after the change of administration, is the Lunchkonzert, weekly free-admission matinee concerts that take place every Tuesday at 1 pm. The concerts feature some of the best Berlin-based musicians - not only members of Berliner Philharmoniker but also scholarship holders of the Orchestra Academy and musicians of Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester and Staatskapelle Berlin - in 30-40-minute programmes of chamber music. The public interest is overwhelming, and the organisers have had to reduce the number of places to 1600 as of March 2009. Therefore on Tuesdays you would be well advised to arrive at the Berliner Philharmonie a bit earlier than five minutes to the beginning of the concert - to be able to get in.

In 2009: 27 October, 3, 10, 17, 24 November, 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 December
In 2010: 5, 12, 19, 26 January, 2, 9, 16, 23 February, 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 March, 6, 13, 20, 27 April, 4, 11, 18, 25 May, 1, 8, 15, 22 June
