BOTTICELLI, Städel Museum, through 28 February

For the first time in Germany, an extensive exhibition of paintings and drawings by Sandro Botticelli is currently on view at the Städel Museum, one of the most significant museums in the country. The show provides more than just an overview of Botticelli's art, revealing and exploring his legacy in the context of the art of the period. The exhibits include works by Botticelli's teachers, students and followers (Filippino Lippi among them). Botticelli who was born and died in Florence is considered as the symbol of the early Italian Renaissance. His 1480 Portrait of a Lady, also part of the exhibition, is one of the most significant paintings in the collection of the Städel Museum. Botticelli, whose name is inseparably linked to the Golden Era in the Florence of Lorenzo the Magnificent, defined a new standard of female beauty.
