Most of Frankfurt museums are located on the bank of the River Main, the so-called Museum Embankment or Museumsufer, in Schaumainkai - a street hosting the city's largest Saturday flea market.
Apart from the museums featured in this guide, Museumsufer is also home to Ikonenmuseum or the Icon Museum housing the largest collection of icons in Germany; Deutsche Architekturmuseum - the German Architecture Museum, mostly used for hosting temporary exhibitions; the Communication Museum dedicated to the history of postal and telephone services; Museum Giersch featuring a small collection of 19th-century local art and an exhibition hall, as well as the Portikus exhibition hall and the Jewish Museum.
