The Side Hotel, which opened its doors ten years ago, can in a certain sense be considered a veteran of the design hotel scene, but it still can't be beaten within its niche. Laconic minimalism, steel, the coolness of glass and concrete plus a pristine environment free of excessive detail, which doesn't distract one's attention and allows one's thoughts to wander freely. The Side is continually a favourite among architects, designers and cinema buffs for good reason. The hotel's pièce de résistance is the neon light installation in the lobby's 30-metre-high atrium, designed by well-known director and artist Robert Wilson. Wilson was also responsible for the lighting arrangements in the other public areas of the hotel and the lighting in the Side Hotel has variations even in the lifts. The hotel also has its own pool and spa - covered by a blue mosaic, with perfectly designed lighting that makes you feel relaxed just by looking at it. The quality of the materials and elegance of details gives comfort and aesthetic pleasure in the rooms as well. The contemporary, demanding traveller might wish for a small, but slightly heretical sense of individuality in this seemingly faultless whole. Yet the Side Hotel is undoubtedly a design hotel classic and you either accept a classic or reject it. Besides, the Side Hotel is particularly accommodating to four-legged friends, providing them with a special bed, as well as a treat to help them acclimatize.
