Bally, Escada, Burrbery, Marc O'Polo, Joop!, Puma, Timberland, adidas, Hugo Boss - in other words, there are plenty of reasons to visit the small German village of Metzingen located some 100 kilometres from Stuttgart. Interestingly, the origins of the popular village of outlets date back to the 1970s when the nearby production unit of Hugo Boss opened its outlet here. It is still the largest one in Metzingen, offering discounts of 25-70 per cent. The Hugo Boss outlet is particularly popular among men: a fine Hugo Boss suit is available for EUR 230-300. The impressive building is divided into separate multi-storey blocks for suits, shoes, accessories, etc. Some of the stuff is neatly stacked and easy to get through, some is lying about in untidy piles. The choice of sizes is wide enough; however, finding whatever you are looking for will take time and patience. You are guaranteed a general sense of fashion overload and exhaustion brought about by what may only be described as sartorial vampirism. One thing you are more likely to realise in Metzingen than at any outlet anywhere else: there just are things for which you should never overpay, if at all possible - in other words, buying them for full price would be crazy (moronic, if you don't mind strong language).
