Pool fashion and accessories, Munich

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

Pool is the Colette and Corso Como of Munich, its most recognizable concept store. Like a number of other notable establishments in the city, it may take you an effort to find this shop. Although Pool is located on Maximilianstrasse, Munich's poshest shopping street, the store is hidden in the basement-level premises of an inner courtyard.

The black and white, monochrome palette of this large and lengthy industrial space (500m2) - made of cement, glass and wood - is accented with vivid splashes of colour. For example, you can try out a pair of new shoes on a bright sofa of fuchsia pink. The premises were originally designed to house a spa, but that project was not carried out, surviving only in the name of the store that took its place - Pool.

Pool offers the crème de la crème of luxury fashion brands, from Alexander McQueen to Givenchy, Martin Margiela, Niel Barrett and Y-3. Here you will find shoes, accessories, books on design, music CDs and other nifty items.

After you have finished your shopping at Pool, you can have lunch or dinner at the nearby Brenner restaurant, which is one of the most popular eating establishments among Munich's fashion public. Set up in the premises of the former royal stables, Brenner has a terrace that makes the ideal location for showcasing the chic items that you just purchased at Pool.

The store also has an outlet (Pool Outlet Plus on Kreuzstrasse 14), where you can find clothing and accessories from the collections of previous fashion seasons. This is the place to shop if you wish to find items by Alexander McQueen, the enfant terrible of British fashion, whose premature death by suicide shook the fashion world earlier this year.
