The spiral-shaped museum building, designed by Dutch UNStudio, is structured around its central atrium, and an exploration of the museum starts with visitors travelling up to the top floor of it. From there a tour through its collection halls may begin. The museum features 160 vehicles, starting from the very first Mercedes automobile, marketed in 1901, to nowadays and narrates the story of the brand in a chronological sequence of its development. The specific machine-building history is revealed in the context of significant turning-points in the world's history. Each period is portrayed in an exciting manner, showing its central events, personalities and cars of that generation. There are photos showing Adolf Hitler's ambitious high-speed road projects of the 1930s, yet only one car is depicted racing along such a super road...Another story takes us back to a time when cars lost their exclusivity, becoming more affordable and triggering a new tendency of people opting to live further away from their workplaces. The museum is information-saturated, and therefore can be selected as the sole destination for your day in Stuttgart.
