An Art Deco-inspired interior by the world-famous designer David Collins; magnificent ceiling vaults; a fabulous view of Budapest's most beautiful boulevard: you would be hard pressed to come up with a combination more perfect than this. Perhaps that is what would make it worth your while to stop by at Callas - even if you are feeling more like a cup of coffee and a French bistro-style cake or bun instead of a bowl of the classical Hungarian goulash soup.
Callas Cafe is located opposite the opera house in the famous Andrássy Boulevard featuring the local stores of some of the world's leading fashion brands, including Louis Vuitton and Armani. The building housing the cafe and restaurant is listed as an object of national heritage, and that is exactly what it feels like as you step inside: genuine and authentic. Somebody may have dropped by before an opera performance or a business meeting; someone else is slowly sampling the excellent selection of fine wines - or perhaps tucking in the traditional Hungarian pasta bake. In any case, the atmosphere here is fantastic, even more so in the summer when you can enjoy a romantic evening on the open-air terrace. Beautiful and in good taste!
