Két Szerecsen has already earned the status of an institution among locals and is one of the largest cafés in Budapest, opening its doors in 2000. It is located near the Opera, Nagymező utca, which is also called the local Broadway, in reference to the time when theatres, taverns, public and private clubs and even brothels were all located here side by side. By the way, five theatres are still to be found here - 50 metres from each other. More than 100 years ago, a coffee shop was on this site, which belonged to two African men - their symbolic statuettes have been placed over the bar as a memento. The interior has the slight nostalgia of a Paris bistro, with wooden chairs and tables, plush sofas and mirrors in massive frames at the end wall.
Wonderful, modern cuisine is offered, with many classic Hungarian dishes served in a creative way. The slight influence of Mediterranean recipes can also be discerned. One of Két Szerecsen's specialties is small appetizers, or variations of Spanish tapas with a modern Hungarian twist. The café is also a popular place for breakfast, which is served until 11 AM. In the summer, the most coveted tables are on the outside terrace or by the large windows, which are opened on warm days.
