The Hungarian National Gallery is one of the museums located in the Buda Castle. It holds the largest Hungarian visual arts collection in the country. Established in 1957 as the National Museum, it spans all the genres and epochs of Hungarian art, including works of those artists who lived and created outside Hungary, e.g., in Paris and elsewhere in West Europe. The exposition is divided into several sections - Middle Ages and Renaissance stone sculpture, Gothic art, late Gothic altars, Renaissance and Baroque art, 19th century painting, photography and graphical art, as well as contemporary art.
