Villa del Balbianello once provided settings for the shooting of one of the "Star Wars" episodes (Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, 2002). A creative team of the film had to admit that it's virtually impossible to imitate beauty like that. The villa with its panoramic terraced gardens is located on the tip of a small wooded peninsula. It was built in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery and its two belfries are still reminding of that time. It's a green paradise covered with magnolias, azaleas and cypress trees, and is listed as one of Grandi Giardini Italiani destinations. The villa can be accessed mainly by boat with only one day per week allowing visitors also by land. Located close by is the only Lake Como island that has a restaurant on it, namely,Locanda dell'Isola Comacina.
*** Several public ferries provide their services on Lake Como. Visitors can either opt for a single ride tickets, choosing just one destination, or take a cruise ticket that includes an entrance fee into several Lake Como villas. More information on the website: www.navigazionelaghi.it
