Balenciaga Store

An interior of the newly opened fashion store of Balenciaga, the 21st century cult label, in Milan, perfectly matches its summer 2007 collection. Such could be scenes of Stenly Kubrick's Space Odyssey's modern version. A golden ceiling décor somewhat resembles a space ship, greedily stretching out its tentacles, trying to snatch some fancy goods of the inhabitants of the planet Earth. The interior has been developed in cooperation with the French designer Dominique Gonzales-Foerster, and the chief couturier Nicolas Ghesquière maintains that it precisely features the experimental style of the brand. Fitting rooms resemble meteorites, kept away from ones eyes by a white wall. To those who have seen the one of the most attended exhibitions of the last year in Paris, a retrospective of the legendary Spanish fashion designer Balenciaga, hundreds of small lamps most probably will strike a familiar cord.
Unlike many other designer shops in Milan, where the ground floor is allotted to accessories, here it is vice versa. The collections are displayed on the ground floor (womenswear - to the right, menswear - to the left), while accessories can be found on the first floor. There leads an iron stairs and a blue corridor, but the current season's fashion collection, flashing on a screen, is the first thing your eyes will catch.
Before the reconstruction, an art gallery and private apartments were occupying this building, yet, the ceilings and the authentic door's paintings have been left untouched.
Balenciaga is now owned by the Gucci Group and during the last years has been one of the fastest growing fashion houses of this well known de luxe concern.
