On commission from MACRO, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, the famous Russian artist duo, have created an environment installation entitled The Blue Carpet. To be more precise, it is a new version of The Blue Carpet, the original one being dated from 1997. The floor of the exhibition room is visually reminiscent of a giant calm surface of water, lined on all sides by closely spaced small-scale paintings. The installation is lighted in such a way that the partially shadowed blue expanse creates a serene atmosphere, encouraging peaceful reflection.
