For Your Eyes Only: A Private Collection, from Mannerism to Surrealism, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, May 24 – August 31, 2014
This summer, the Venice villa of extravagant art collector Peggy Guggenheim will be displaying a no less extravagant private art collection belonging to Richard and Ulla Dreyfus-Best of Basel. The works in this exhibition cover a wide range of art, starting from the middle ages and ending with the present. For the Swiss couple, "stylish style" was a no less important criterion than originality and quality in the selection of works for this showing, which incorporates a selection of approximately 120 paintings, sculptures, drawings and artefacts by such prominent artists as Pieter Brueghel the Elder, Andy Warhol, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, Man Ray and René Magritte.
