A tiny little family restaurant in the district of Dorsoduro - so easy to miss... It is not much more than two small rooms and a miniature garden packed with tables. An authentic and simple ambience: the place is filled with carefree, unrestrained chatter. Native Venetians are quite fond of this place for the inconspicuous location, the friendly pricelist and, of course, the food; hence the restaurant is permanently jam-packed and getting in without a booking is next to impossible. Unlike many other osterías of the city, La Bitta specialises in meat and vegetables: don't look for fish courses in the menu. It is, on the other hand, the ultimate place to sample excellent calves' liver, the forte of Venetian cuisine. And some excellent panna cotta. The menu does change every day: it always lists three appetisers, three main courses and three desserts. The service is charming and very, very family-like: should you order wine but, for some mysterious reason, not feel like knocking back a whole bottle, you will still be served one and the number of glasses to be had - negotiated... And yet the best thing about the place is the pricelist: EUR 9 for a starter, EUR 14 and 15 - for the main course.
