Pine trees, Riga

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

Pine is the most common species of tree in Latvia. This means that it is sometimes possible to be in the woods and in the city simultaneously. Among the most striking such locations are the well-to-do Mežaparks neighbourhood in Riga and the nearby resort town of Jūrmala. Thanks to the classic, Latvian poem Broken Pines (Lauztās priedes), pines have a particular significance in the Latvian psyche, to such an extent that people sometimes even identify themselves with these stately trees.
