René, Vilnius

Author: Anothertravelguide.com

René's specialty is Belgian cuisine, yet not only traditional Moules Provinciales make it worth a visit. It's definitely one of the most appealing restaurants on the current Vilnius restaurant scene. Every detail of décor has a story to tell and even a dull day cannot dampen its joyful ambiance that instantly puts a smile on your face that never leaves throughout the meal. Belgian surrealist René Magritte has inspired the name and design of the place, and posters of his paintings adorn the walls as well. Bescribbled bottles line the bar and guests, waiting for their orders, can express their creativity drawing on white-topped tables with provided pencils. René features charming details like funny hooks for coats, waitresses spruced up in white blouses, black aprons and bowler-hats while fresh printed materials about events and venues in Vilnius are piled in a wheel-borrow next to the entrance. Each room has some eye-catching details, like black and white chess-board floor tiles or modest white walls with patches of bare bricks. The restaurant offers quite a large menu and prices will not diminish your appetite either (Moules Moutarde - 32 litas, salad - 10, 12 or 14 litas), and, of course, Belgian beer.
